Paul first picked up a guitar at the age of 15 and went on to play in a number of local bands. In 1988 Paul formed Under the Sun and is the remaining founder member of the band. He continues to be the lead guitarist and took on lead vocals in 2006. A prolific songwriter and lyricist, he is equally comfortable writing complete songs or jointly co-writing and developing ideas with Phil.

Phil started playing bass in the early 1990s, quickly followed by guitar and drums. He was writing songs before learning to play and, as his multi-instrumental skills developed, was soon adding the music to his lyrics. He has played in a number of Chesterfield bands and joined Under the Sun in 2006. Phil is the 'technician' in the band with his song arranging ability perfectly complementing Paul's prolific flow of ideas.
